Manqoba Mngqithi update on Abbubaker Nassir, Sipho Mbule futures
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has confirmed that striker Abubaker Nassir is likely to join local rivals SuperSport United this season. He also discussed the future of midfielder Sipho Mbule, who has faced challenges at Sundowns.
Nassir has struggled with injuries, while Mbule hasn’t been able to secure regular playing time since joining the team. When asked about their situations, Mngqithi shared his thoughts on Mbule’s future, suggesting he might return to Sundowns during the mid-season transfer window.
“It surprises me when journalists aren’t aware of these updates—I get worried. Nassir isn’t with us anymore; I believe he’s at SuperSport now,” Mngqithi said.
Regarding Mbule, Mngqithi expressed his belief in the player’s talent. “I think moving on is good for him. He has a lot to offer, and it could be beneficial for him to experience a different environment. He still has the chance to come back and help us.”
Mngqithi noted that Mbule has struggled physically due to lack of regular play. “When you’re not playing often, it can lead to weight gain and other issues. Then, when you do get a chance, injuries can happen because you’re not as match-fit as you’d like to be.”
He remains optimistic about Mbule’s future. “I can see him returning to Sundowns and earning a spot on the team. Playing regularly with Sekhukhune could help him grow, which in turn would benefit us. He’s a very talented player, and I believe he can contribute greatly, especially later in the season.
